Quite possibly my favourite Warhol piece.

j’adore paris: photo diary

Friday, April 1st, 2011

1. View from the roof of Centre Pomidou 2. The courtyard outside the Louvre; 3.We stayed in the stunning Hotel Gabriel Paris Marais, in the Marais district, part of the luxury Design Hotel group.  The staff were so charming and the hotel was the epitome of beauty and calm (I just wish I hadn’t un-made the bed before taking the photo. Oh well); 4. Yummy sugary treats from our local patisserie; 5. My beautiful sister Leigh; 6. ermmm….still life? 7.  Bussing it Paris style; 8. More from outside the Louvre; 9. The iconic Arc de Triumph; 10. Mouthwatering fruit for sale at the market in the colourful Chateau Rouge district; 11. Mmmm garlic snails at the Paris instituion that is Chartier; 12. Art at Centre Pompidou. I wish I remembered who the artist was because to me, this image absolutely sums up Paris; 11. View from our balcony table at Chartier; 12/13. Me & ma soeur at a cafe on the Champs-Élysées.

My sister Leigh and I took a little trip to Paris for my birthday last month. I don’t even remember how many times I’ve been to Paris but each and every time I go back, I don’t want to leave. It’s an ongoing romantic dream of mine to move there, work as Azzedine Alaia’s buyer in his atelier, and, after work, run in sky high Louboutin Pigalles on the cobbled stones wrapped in a luxurious fur on the way to an amazing Parisian party. Then after a mesmerising evening, hop in a taxi back to a tiny apartment in the Bastille district with a little balcony overlooking the city with a Malboro Light and a vino rouge in hand underneath the stars.

Paris, I love you and I will see you again soon.

mad dogs

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011

It’s so sadistic but I absolutely love this advert for the new Mad Dogs series on Sky.

Especially loving that they’ve used the song ‘Summertime.’ My mum used to sing this to me and my siblings to get us to sleep when we were little. Without the scary mask and machine gun obv.

inspiration of a darker nature

Saturday, January 29th, 2011

You may have noticed that I love the darker and scarier side of art fashion and photography..just a little bit. The more drama the better.

Love it.

the nancyboy decade

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

I was invited to the private viewing of the Nancyboy Decade 1999-2009 exhibition by the lovely James of Flasshhh, so after work, I headed down with my friend Kristina to The Book Club in Shoreditch. The artist, Stuart Semple, worked anonymously for years and this intrigue saw the artist in huge demand, particularly in the nineties, seeing him sell thousands of paintings to international collectors and pop icons, such as Debbie Harry. The exhibition was created by collectors from all over, which displayed pieces spanning over a decade.

Pop Art is definitely my favourite art genre and I loved the vibrant 80′s and 90′s references in the art work and the almost crudely drawn cartoonish images with brash slogans and splashes of colour coming from the seemingly quiet artist.

I took some snaps, so enjoy![me and the artist]

inspiration

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

I was asked recently what inspires me. It was a question that made me think, but made me hesitate to answer at the risk of sounding poncey and narcissistic (which I probably will when you continue reading. I apologise in advance).

I created an inspiration board, though, which took me aback when I eventually finished it, hours later, as anyone would think I was some kind of goth (do goths still exist or is it just emos now?). There’s a lot of black, but since its winter – this is a given with me. I used to be  a brightly dressed young thing, but after living in New York, I somehow adopted this scruffy semi-art-house thing (i.e. backcombing my hair; wearing whatever’s darkest and at closest reach at 7am in the morning before work), which evolved into a kind of black-bodycon-elastane-in-everything-look that I seem to be into at the moment. Not sure how long it will last (probably til the end of the month when I have to start dusting off the summer wardrobe). Anyway, since I spent so long creating the bloody thing, I thought I may as well share it with you guys.

I stuck a lot of Warhol on there. I LOVE Pop Art and LOVE Warhol. Litchenstein was my favourite Pop Artist for a long time, but since I’ve gotten older I’ve found a renewed love for old Andy. I went to the Pop Life exhibiton at  Tate Modern with my mum a few weeks ago and it was brilliant. Especially the darker side of the artist and his prediction about how self obsessed and celebrity obsessed we’d all become. If I could go back in time, I’d rewind to the late 70s, slip into a slinky Azzedine Alaia number and head up to Studio 54 to dance on  the tables with Debby Harry, Warhol, Jerry Hall and Grace Jones, and sip cocktails with Bianca Jagger (that’s if I could get my name on the guestlist).

Another long running obsession of mine is Steven Meisel photography. He’s my favourite and I love it. His photos are somewhat risque to say the least. He photographed Aunty Madge in her controversial book, ‘Sex’ and still photographs basically every cover of Italian Vogue.

Anyway, I’ve rambled on for long enough and I think it’s time for me to stop living in a dreamworld…off to watch Clueless for the thousandth time. It’s at the “rollin’ with the homies” bit.
