mad dogs

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011

It’s so sadistic but I absolutely love this advert for the new Mad Dogs series on Sky.

Especially loving that they’ve used the song ‘Summertime.’ My mum used to sing this to me and my siblings to get us to sleep when we were little. Without the scary mask and machine gun obv.

inspiration of a darker nature

Saturday, January 29th, 2011

You may have noticed that I love the darker and scarier side of art fashion and photography..just a little bit. The more drama the better.

Love it.

gareth pugh: paris ss11

Saturday, October 2nd, 2010

My favourite thing about this fashion season is this short film featuring Gazza’s SS11 collection, which was unveiled as part of his show in Paris this Fashion Week.  Directed, of course, by none other than the incredible Ruth Hogben and Music Direction by Matthew Stone.

Gareth Pugh is one of my favourite designers EVER – I absolutely love his mood and drama – and this film reminds me why. How f*cking rad is this video?! And the music is phenomenal. In my mind, this is what fashion is all about. It’s art. It’s so out-of-this-world-inspirational. I feel like if Leigh Bowery were here he’d love it. It doesn’t make sense and it doesn’t have to. And it makes no excuses.

is that all there is?

So the blog has been horrendously abandoned – partly because the camera has been lost and partly because time has been lost – a lot has happened in the last month or so and inspiration has not come easily. However, I have just returned from Ibiza which has reminded me how many beautiful people and beautiful outfits and beautiful scenery there is in the world – so photos will be coming soon…

In the meanwhile, I have a few random shots of inspiration from my Florence a couple of months ago that I’ve bunged together against a Peggy Lee soundtrack that I hope you will enjoy until I prise the holiday photos from my friend’s camera. I will purchase another of my own at the end of the month – now my Nikon has gone for the FOURTH time, I think I should find a new model…?

it sparkles and it shines and it’s like silk

Apologies for being AWOL on the blogging front. Firstly, I broke my laptop and secondly I landed a fantasticly fabulous new job and just have started so have been absolutely swept off my feet and haven’t had a minute to think – let alone blog!

Anyway, this is kind of a lazy post, but my friend A alerted me to the fact that I have not continued my Florentine Fashion series…so here’s some more for ya…

Enjoy

babylon by night

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

So me and my American girl kept hearing about this club called Babylon, which turned out to be one of the most amazing underground clubs I’ve ever been to. Everyone looked gorgeous, with glossy hair, dressed to the nines in edgy designer rags, smouldering with Malboro Lights perched between fingers or in corners of mouths. Dilated pupils and slender limbs danced to the most fantastic house deep music ever, played by the most stunning DJ who I think the whole club was in love with (we certainly were!). It was as though we stumbled across a secret society – the bar tenders all looked straight out of a Jean Paul Gautier advert, in aviator sunglasses and customised waistcoats or sailor suits. The coat check guy was in a leather jacket one night and in full drag complete with bustier and red lipstick the next. I couldn’t work out if I was dreaming or not as the club almost appeared to vaporise the minute we stepped out onto the cobbled streets in the early hours.

spaced out

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

Been one of those evenings where I’m so tired but can’t actually sleep. And don’t. And then become un-tired*. So un-tired that I can’t sleep, and a vicious cycle occurs. And I really had to note down these random musings of mine before I forgot them and passed out drooling over my laptop.

1. Is it strange that I want to replace my wardrobe for clothing rails? have thought this for a year or so now. Gonna order one from ikea right this second (or remove my mother’s evening dresses from the rail in the guest room and steal that one instead..but that one is white…I want a silver one).

2. I have just decided that my new style/lady crush is Shala Monroque. If you don’t know, google.

3. I wish I could read Japanese so I could read Vogue Nippon online. My internet translator thingy is so slow. Hang on, my brother does…although I doubt he’ll be willing to oblige to weekly vogue readings.

4. I have discovered 3 of the tops I bought in the American Apparel rummage have holes in. Oh well, strategic positioning/creating extra holes will solve that problem in no time. They collectively cost about 14 quid so I shan’t complain.

5. I need more oversized gemmy* (*I know these are not real words) cocktail rings – preferably those YSL ones Rumi Neely has. Aww, she has everything I want! I also rreaaaallly want that Alexander McQueen knuckleduster and the matching bag. Damn it!

6. I am in the wrong city.

7. Something is attempting to break through from under my skin and surface in the middle of my forehead. I will not call it a spot as I do not wish to tempt fate. It must be some kind of ladybird or a drawing pin under there.

8. I have a sore throat. I need a Strepsil but I only have Fox’s mints to hand. So far, as expected, they’re not working.

9. I need more shoes in my life. Want some fluffy ones. Louboutins preferably. I have decided that this is year of the shoe.

10. I really need to start washing my vintage before putting them in my wardrobe. The attic smell is starting to offend neighbouring  clothes and they’re going to start to complain soon.

11. A cushion just fell on the floor. I think I have too many cushions and pillows on my bed. Brings to minds that scene in that Jennifer Anniston/Ben Stiller movie where she makes him stab the unecessary pillows. I forget which one. If you’ve seen it, you’ll know which I mean. Is 8 too many?

12. That reminds me, I need to see that Tom Ford movie before it finishes.

13. I have just realised Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason has been repeated on my dvd player 4 times. I’m not even watching it.

Bloody Hell. What time is it??!! OK. Bedtime.

Disclaimer: please be aware that it is late, I am tired and therefore the above probably makes little sense. But it is, after all, my blog and I will write what I please.

the street where originality lives

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

I’m sorry, but how amazing is the adidas advert?! I get goosebumps when I watch it! Loving the scenes of Brooklyn (where I used to live – I miss it!), and what looks like East London and well as other places.

The bit with Ciara stuck in on green screen looks a bit random though. Looks like she’s been plonked in there from outer space.
