Perfection is: the new YSL Palais metallic slingbacks I spied on Net-a-Porter this week. I am in love.

Simple, elegant, timeless – and they actually also look really comfortable. They’ve done so many designs on that last including my last season fave, the Palais Mohawk.

They cost almost 6 bills though, so donations are welcome. Thanks in advance guys.

unique

I had my eye on the amazing Spring/Summer Topshop Unique wedge samples for weeks so was absolutely thrilled when the amazing designer, Mel Cohen gave them to me! Yay!

I tested them out this evening when I met my friends Kemi & Kristina for happy hour cocktails at the Southwark Rooms in London Bridge (which does wicked Porn Star martinis by the way). I daresay I couldn’t walk very fast in these 6″ bad boys; I buckled twice on those bloody raised bumps at the road crossings and when some guy walked straight into me without looking (as tends to happen in London train stations) but all in all not bad. The shoes had plenty of admirers though – they attracted attention from the most random strangers, e.g. 50 something men, who stopped to pass on their greetings & compliments to the shoesies (note: the shoes, not me).

I wore them as I thought I’d have to stand in some busy bar as they’re actually really comfy (I never wear flats out – being 5″2 I get swallowed easily in crowds) but thankfully we managed to get seats, so my tired tootsies could comfortably rest under the table. Happy Times.

viva l’italia

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

So I’ve been AWOL for a while, reason being, I’ve actually have been stranded in Florence – not that that’s a bad thing.

I stayed with my fabulous friend Genevieve, who I met at NY Fashion week when she was working in PR, about 2 years ago – and I haven’t seen her since I left. So when she emailed to tell me she was in Italy for 4 months, I couldn’t book my ticket fast enough!

I was only supposed to be there for a few days, but thanks to the volcanic activity, the length of my holiday was doubled and we spent the entire time lazing/walking around in the sun, shopping, eating, drinking Sangria, partying, eating, eating, eating…. I’m sure I have gained about a stone.

I restrained myself from going mad in the shops, but I did get a couple of bits and visited some fantastic vintage stores and took some sneaky snaps. They were like little treasure chests found just off the beaten track. Gorgeous designer vintage boutiques as well as dusty cramped rooms packed to the rafters with Mama’s treasures. Anyway, I’ve rambled on long enough.

Going to phase out the photos for you. And today, it’s vintage shoes, Florentine style. Enjoy!

shoe porn #2. this one’s for julie

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

I’m off to Florence in 2 weeks and seriously need to start assessing my pre/summer wardrobe (not going to be necessary over here in Blighty for at least the next 4 months). Going to be a big trip up to the attic and dragging the bin bags of clothes out, as is my bi-annual ritual.

So in the spirit of things, I bought the much coveted 4½” Wisteria wedges from Topshop today. Ameezzin. I actually bought the nude ones about 3 weeks ago the the second they came out, but took them home and realised they look weird against my skin colour (‘clothing racism’ as my friend Folusha would say, i.e. skin coloured tights and the like) so had to exchange them for the black ones instead – which of course sold out everywhere.

When I’m told I can’t have something – it then becomes a mission (that, or a tantrum). I called nearly every main store in the country for the last 2 weeks, including getting my younger brother to go into the Birmingham store for me, and hand the phone to the bemused sales assistant, much to his horror; and finally managed to track down a random pair left at Oxford Circus (I have their shoe lounge direct number saved in my phone for such emergencies) and braved the wind and rain to get them. I then triumphantly called my friend Sarah, who I had dragged around the week before to assist me on my search, but was not met with the desired response. I believe the words “loser” and “obsessed” were used.

This is what happens when you’re on leave from work and have too much time on your hands.
